This zakat calculator works out how much zakat you owe on income, savings, gold, investments, business and farm produce, using the figures set by Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS). The nisab for July to December 2026 is RM38,748, and zakat on wealth that reaches it is 2.5%. Zakat fitrah and agricultural zakat have their own rates, explained below.
Each asset has its own calculator because LZS assesses each one differently. Many people need more than one: a salaried employee with ASB units and a savings account would use three. LZS does not collect zakat twice on the same wealth within one haul, so count each ringgit once.
Prefer Bahasa Malaysia? Every calculator has a BM version, starting from the kalkulator zakat Selangor home page.
Nisab is the minimum amount of wealth before zakat becomes compulsory. In Selangor it is based on the value of 85 grams of gold, and LZS fixes a ringgit figure for each half of the year. For July to December 2026 that figure is RM38,748. Below it, zakat is not compulsory, though you are still free to give.
Haul is one full year of ownership. Savings, stored gold and similar wealth become zakatable once they have stayed at or above the nisab for a complete haul. If you have several bank accounts, LZS adds the balances together, and any conventional interest is taken out before the 2.5% is applied.
Income works differently. It is assessed on what you earn over the year, and many employees spread the payment monthly.
Stored gold uses the 85 gram nisab. Gold jewellery worn by women is measured against the Selangor uruf of 800 grams instead, and zakat is due only on the weight above it. Farm produce has its own measures too: the nisab for paddy is 1,306 kg, not a ringgit figure.
The savings and income examples use the July to December 2026 nisab of RM38,748. The fitrah example uses the 2026 LZS rate per person.
Assumptions: RM60,000 has sat in your savings accounts for a full haul, it never dropped below the nisab, and none of it is conventional interest. RM60,000 is above RM38,748, so zakat is due: RM60,000 × 2.5% = RM1,500. Had the combined balance been RM35,000, it would sit below the nisab and zakat on it would not be compulsory.
Assumptions: gross pay of RM5,000 a month, calculated without deductions. Annual income is RM5,000 × 12 = RM60,000, which is above the nisab. Zakat is RM60,000 × 2.5% = RM1,500 a year, or RM125 a month. On RM3,000 a month, annual income is RM36,000, which is below the nisab, so income zakat would not be compulsory.
LZS accepts two methods for income zakat, with deductions and without. The with-deductions method first subtracts basic living costs (had kifayah) and your EPF contribution, so it gives a lower figure than the one above.
Zakat fitrah does not depend on the nisab. It is due from every Muslim who has food or money left over after covering the household's needs for the eve and morning of Eid.
Assumptions: you, your spouse and two children, eating local super special or imported white rice, which LZS rates at RM8 per person for 2026. Zakat fitrah is 4 × RM8 = RM32, paid by the head of the household, ideally before the Eid prayer.
The same household pays RM64 at the RM16 rate (fragrant, glutinous, parboiled or brown rice) and RM100 at the RM25 rate (basmati, ponni, Japanese or Calrose, red or black rice).
Zakat paid in Selangor gives you an income tax rebate (rebat cukai), ringgit for ringgit, up to the amount of tax you owe. The rebate comes off your tax bill directly, not off your taxable income.
Say your tax for the year is RM2,000 and you paid RM1,500 in zakat: your tax falls to RM500. If your tax had been RM1,000, the rebate would bring it to zero and stop there. Keep your zakat payment confirmation slip, as LZS states it is the reference for the rebate when you fill in your tax return.
RM38,748, the LZS figure for July to December 2026. LZS sets a new figure for each half of the year.
Zakat is not compulsory on it. LZS still encourages people below the nisab to give what they can.
Both are valid, and LZS recognises both under fatwa. Without deductions is simpler and gives a higher amount. With deductions subtracts had kifayah and EPF first.
Yes. Divide the annual amount by 12: RM1,500 a year becomes RM125 a month.
The head of the household pays for themselves and their dependants, such as a spouse and children. Each person is counted at the rate for the rice the household eats.
Only the weight above the 800 gram uruf. For 900 grams of jewellery, zakat is due on 100 grams: 100 × the current gold price per gram × 2.5%.
Use the zakat calculators above to work out what you owe at the current Selangor rates.
